Reviews :

"Hindsight has released five excellent LPs of radio transcriptions by Duke Ellington from 1946-47, one of his most underrated periods. With the trumpet section now starring Taft Jordan and the phenomenal high-note virtuoso Cat Anderson, Tricky Sam Nanton and Lawrence Brown still in the trombone section and veterans Harry Carney and Johnny Hodges joined in the saxophone section by clarinetist Jimmy Hamilton and tenorman Al Sears (not to mention the presence of bassist Oscar Pettiford), Ellington's orchestra was far from in decline. There are lots of colorful moments provided throughout this series by all of the above and Volume One gets it off to a solid start." AllMusic Review by Scott Yanow
